Stretch Your Creative Writing Talents

by Marjorie J McDonald

Being a good writer means that you can take only one or two stories and turn them into many stories by changing the way you write about the topic matter. What you add or subtract from the content you have in front of you to give it a novel development.

Change a tale you have already written and see if you can add drama to the story you have or maybe you can turn it into a comedy or a play that a local theater group might consider adding to their offerings. Alternative routes to re-purpose what you have written could be to approach the subject from a writers point of view or a documentary approach. You can see the same subject could go in any of those directions and be valuable approaches.

It's all about the blend of the events that happened and how you as the writer put them together in your story line and time line of events. For example: If you have ever gone to an airport for a flight and found you took longer to go through the security check point than you were expecting and then had to run to get to the gate so you didn't miss the boarding for the flight. You have two decisions immediately: are you wanting to go the drama version or the comedy version. Either will stretch your creative writing skills.

You could try both and see which one you have the most fun with and use that to help you continue to develop that kind of writing. Or go with one of the other suggestions or you could try each one of the proposals for developing the topic. It's important as a writer to stretch yourself and have a great time doing that with your subjects.

It's all in the method you take with the subject. This sort of writing stretches you to consider the easiest way to put the information and events into your story in such a fashion as to get the 2 contrasting results. It's usually possible to use the twists to develop your writing resources so you can see things from 1 or 2 viewpoints.
