Some Of The Best Acting Performances From The Incredibly Talented Actor, Jim Carrey

by Brian Wilmot

This article will discuss the career and movies of Jim Carrey. Carrey got his start in acting in the early 80s, but it was not until his role on In Living Color from 1990 to 1994 that he was recognized and appreciated by national audiences. If you had to single out a movie that helped him break through, there is no doubt it was Ace Ventura, a character that has more of his fair share of memorable lines.

But which films have been Jim Carrey's best? Here are my personal top five favorites films in which he has starred or been featured.

The first film on this list that I will discuss is Dumb and Dumber. If you are looking for an absolutely hilarious comedy that will not require much thinking, but plenty of laughs, look no further. This very well might be his funniest film. Jeff Daniels also stars in this movie, and I have no idea where he has been since.

Another movie that has to be included on this list is the original Ace Ventura: Pet Detective film. I can't even tell you how many times I have seen this movie over the years, but it has to be at least 25 times. For some reason, it seems that every road trip or plane ride I took in the early nineties that this film was playing on the television.

It goes without saying that Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is one of Jim Carrey's greatest films of all time. In fact, this is probably my favorite film of his of all, and it isn't a comedy. This movie is ranked as the number 60 best film of all time according to the Internet Movie Database.

Another film that definitely makes the cut for me is Yes Man. I did not know what to think about this movie and thought it would be a regurgitated version of Liar, Liar. I was quite surprised with how good this movie was. It ended up being much more than a silly comedy and one of my favorites.

No list of Jim Carrey movies would be complete without mentioning The Mask. This is Jim Carrey at his best. It also doesn't hurt that this is the movie that helped establish Cameron Diaz. She was amazing in this movie. In fact, I will go on to say that if you ask most middle aged men what movie Cameron Diaz looks the most attractive in, most of the time the answer will be The Mask. Maybe it was that red dress.

I don't know what the future holds for Jim Carrey. Will he revert to comedies, continue to pursue more serious content matter, or will he stick to children's films as he has done in recent years? The one thing we can be sure of, is audiences will go see his movies regardless of the genre.
